Working Together
I am honored to serve as your State Senator representing
District 20. As your
State Senator, I am striving to build a spirit of cooperation in
bringing rural and urban areas together. It is important
to build coalitions, that working together, will move Iowa
forward so that all Iowans will benefit from the dynamic and
technological advances that are taking place every day.
And working together, we will grow Iowa so that we will maintain
our quality of life and provide opportunities for our children
and grandchildren.During
the legislative session, I will be scheduling forums throughout
District 20. Times and locations for these meetings will
be posted on this site as they are scheduled. As your
State Senator, it is important that I know your thoughts and

FAST FACTS:

The Putneys live on their farm near Gladbrook and Gladbrook
has been John's home his entire life.

John commutes daily to his job in Des Moines as Executive
Director of the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation. The
commute is 75 miles each way.

The Putney's have three children and five grandchildren.
|
 |
John enjoys his collection of pre-1960 baseball and football
cards and keeps current with hobby news. Luckily, his mother
took good care of them while he was pursuing other interests!

His favorite sport is college football. He and Emily have
missed only several Iowa State home football games in 30
years.

John's favorite reading is current events and human
interests. His favorite books are biographies.

One of John's fondest memories was meeting and visiting with
JC Penney at a 1964 cattle sale in Lexington , KY.

The Putney family has exhibited Championship cattle at the
Iowa State Fair, Illinois State Fair, Wisconsin State Fair,
North American International in Louisville, National Western
in Denver and numerous other fairs and expositions.

John feels very strongly about the value of youth programs
and their significance in today's society.
|
 |
John believes that community colleges and the services they
provide are an integral part of Iowa's infrastructure and
future.
